USAID ADMINISTRATOR POWER ENDORSES THE COALITION FOR RACIAL & ETHNIC EQUITY IN DEVELOPMENT (CREED)
Samantha Power, Administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) recently issued the following statement endorsing the Coalition for Racial & Ethnic Equity in Development (CREED):
“The launch of the Coalition for Racial and Ethnic Equity in Development (CREED) in April 2021 sent an important signal to the global development and humanitarian community: we need to do more to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in our work. At USAID, we see how advancing DEIA throughout our organization makes us more effective, drives more sustainable progress, and holds us accountable to the communities we partner with. At over 100 signatories today, CREED is growing fast — and we look forward to strengthening our cooperation with CREED as it continues to advance its vision of racial and ethnic equity throughout the development and humanitarian sectors.”
Signatories of CREED commit to the Racial and Ethnic Equity pledge to advance racial and ethnic diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within their organizations and work to instill REE in international development. International development and humanitarian assistance organizations based in the U.S. are eligible to become members of CREED and sign the pledge. Both not-for-profit and for-profit organizations of all sizes are welcome to join CREED.
Indira Ahluwalia, CREED Founder/Chair and President of KAUR Strategies said, “Administrator Power’s endorsement validates our mission and work to advance racial and ethnic equity in the international development and humanitarian assistance sector, and paves the way for the impact to take hold. USAID’s leadership in building racial and ethnic equity is pivotal for all involved in this effort.”
CREED is actively seeking additional organizations to sign the REE pledge and join the CREED learning community. Signatories have access to CREED’s learning hub and professional network that shares a commitment to instilling racial and ethnic equity as a core pillar in the development sector.
